Tombstone Tumble
ISU Ride Engineering Competition 2022
What is Tombstone Tumble?
Welcome to Tombstone Tumble, a fully functioning scale flat ride completed as TEA@ND’s submission to the Iowa State Ride Engineering Competition in 2022.
This submission placed 2nd overall!
Riders find themselves thrust in the middle of a fierce competition to the deed of J&J mines between outlaws Lorraine and Jenkins, acquaintances of the dearly (and conveniently) departed Jasper, whose will holds the key. Loading on opposite sides of a differential flyswatter , guests soon find out that more than just treasure still remains in these mines… and Jasper’s ghostly spirit isn’t too pleased with his ex-business partners.
As a member of the mechanical team, I had the opportunity to consult on mechanism design, analyze/apply ASTM industry safety standards through risk assessment, and assist in final assembly and fabrication of the machine.
A combined effort of marketing, controls, mechanical, safety, and theming teams, Tombstone Tumble represents a coalition of talent, collaboration, and communication.
This diverse combination of backgrounds and skillsets allowed us to produce a wholistic attraction design, robust in both engineering and thematic attributes.
The final design successfully operated continuously for 8 hours.
Simultaneously, as a member of the thematic team, I was also able to contribute to the overall story of the attraction, develop scale models of thematic structures, and make considerations for guest flow, throughput, and queue layout.
